  1. I know that I decided to post it weeks ago, but better late than never!

I also decided to get a tattoo. More on that later.

In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the… Anyone? Anyone?… the Great Depression, passed the… Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone? Raised or lowered?… raised tariffs, in an effort to collect more revenue for the federal government. Did it work? Anyone? Anyone know the effects? It did not work, and the United States sank deeper into the Great Depression. Today we have a similar debate over this. Anyone know what this is? Class? Anyone? Anyone? Anyone seen this before? The Laffer Curve. Anyone know what this says? It says that at this point on the revenue curve, you will get exactly the same amount of revenue as at this point. This is very controversial. Does anyone know what Vice President Bush called this in 1980? Anyone? Something-d-o-o economics. “Voodoo” economics

  4. A Fellow Yellow

Bob, that was totally uncalled for.

  5. Yeah, Bob – don’t ruin it for me.

Maybe Mr. Normal just stepped out for coffee…?

Please help us cheer up Mark!
Several of Mark’s blog friends were thinking it might help cheer Mark up if we re-opened The Idiot Worshipers site and left messages for him. For those of you who are new to his blog, several months ago he travelled to South America on a charity mission and we welcomed him back by throwing him a blog party (https://idiotworshipers.wordpress.com/). We’d like to invite you all to log into the site and leave a message for him. Please feel free to leave whatever message you think will cheer him up – a heartfelt note, a song, a poem, or just a joke – whatever you want! The most important thing is that he knows we all care about him and that he is not alone.

Please note: I’ve had some difficulty leaving messages on some of the blogs – particularly ones that aren’t wordpress. Please let everyone else know so everyone who wants to can participate. Thank you!

  7. I stumbled upon your collection while researching literary expatriates in Paris. Primarily those who started emmigrating during the 1920’s to search for “the america worth writing about.” Hemmingway, Dos Passos, Fitzgerald, Langston Hughes, James Joyce, Henry Miller, Ezra Pound, later Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs. Those who were wrongly shunned and or prosecuted for their ideas of freedom and creativity in their own country (a bit different these days, but still a strikingly familiar situation). I think you’ve stumbled upon something truly bohemian, your stories are caricatures of feined or real tragedy, (although infused with light humour and a dash of expertly timed sarcasm) and aside from the fact that yours are non-fiction, (I’m assuming only the names are changed to protect-the-innocent) your methods for observing are not much different than theirs. (Minus the prostitutes and the absinthe) which is what interests me. Focusing on your love life seems to be only a savory introduction to an underlying dynamic. A silhouette for cultural tension and anticipation of modern love and relationships, in a cosmopolitan Paris…good show.

Would be interested in your answers to some questions on this topic, if you’re open to it.

Thanks for the pleasant distraction…good work!

  8. Hey I love your blog 🙂
